Writer's Block: Prophecy or Fallacy?

  • Dec. 14th, 2008 at 4:18 PM

Happy birthday, Nostradamus. Many people consider the prophecies of Nostradamus to be uncannily accurate, while others remain skeptical. Do you think it's possible to predict the future?

Of course I do think it's possible to predict the future, but what we can't predict is how we'll get there. I also believe that we can change future events to an extent. Its a subject I'd like to explore more in my writing.

Writer's Block: How I got on LJ

Who introduced you to LiveJournal? Why did you first open an account or get involved?

The Talented Mr. Greg Herren has a blog called Queer and Loathing in America. In addition to juggling two mystery series at competing publishers, assisting his partner Paul with the running of the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival in New Orleans, and editing various anthologies, Greg was the editor who acquisitioned THE MASTER OF SEACLIFF for now-defunct Haworth Press, a deal made over strong vodka/cranberrys at the Bourbon Pub in 2004.  I generally find blogs dull, so I make sure mine is as bland as pablum (at least under this moniker) so as not to compete, and reinforcing the stereotype of the tormented creative.  I also like these questions, when they're not stupid. And I still don't believe in writer's block....but very much in procrastination.

However, I'm subscribing to the philosophy that 'any writing' for me these days is better than none at all, and as I plod forward on SOUTHERN GOTHIC, attempt to muster courage to revise AT THE CROSSROADS, and start or complete about three other projects also, at least I can wallow here: but never in self-pity.

I don't post regularly, but when I do, I hope it's 'cherce'.

Writer's Block: Gaming From Young to Old

What was your favorite game as a child? What's your favorite now?

Board games popped to mind and 'Clue' was the first. I found a duplicate of the vintage either I or my neighbors' had; its sort of an orange-brown with caricature type art for the suspects. I remember when the game was updated to 'real' photos; an Asian Miss Scarlett which is probably highly un-pc now.

What three dishes could you live on for the rest of your life?

*chicken fried chicken with 2/3 rotating vegetable offerings, rolls and butter
*scrambled egg whites, crispy bacon, fruit and white toast with strawberry jam
(and all washed down with unlimited, fresh, ruby rich iced tea)

How many pair of shoes do you have? Out of those pairs, how many do you wear more than a few times a year?

View 501 Answers

A dozen or so, I guess. Tennis shoes...excuse me: 'cross trainers' is the correct noun. Boots for the bar, two new casual shoe styles from Target, and a gaggle of dress shoes for work. They all are rotated on a regular basis, with only the Birkenstocks and a pair of yellow construction worker type boots that get 'a few times a year' usage.

Writer's Block: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

What is one thing you MUST do before you go to bed at night?

MUST do...sounds a bit nosy for LJ and stressing that we're all OCD. I have several things I do..brush the teeth, pop in the mouthguard so I don't grind (and let me tell you, I get a good night's sleep with that thing in). Make sure the fan/humidifier/white noise is sufficient.  Read some Catholic dogma (for lack of a better word...I have a short stack of various prayers, educational and inspirational resources). Say a prayer, pull on the eyeshades and either cuddle up next to the pillow or splay myself flat across the bed.

Writer's Block: Cinco de Mayo

Are you celebrating Cinco de Mayo?

I addressed that YESTERDAY, en el cuatro de Mayo, by celebrating at El Coyote. Tonight I'm 'writing' although answering these inane questions doesn't really count in my book.

Writer's Block: Road Trip

When was the last time you drove out of town?

View 500 Answers

Foolish me...I initially interpreted the question as 'when was the last time you were driven out of town'...as in ' asked to leave'; 'run out on a rail'; chased by villagers in Bavarian folk costumes with torches...you get the drift.  That's much more interesting, isn't it.
I went out about a month ago to test drive my swifty new roadster; loving each minute of it. Unfortunately my work commitments don't seem to be allowing for any driving for the next month or so, but with gas in Lohs Anjelleez at $4 bucks, I'd rather fly.
